7. The KAPD was founded in 1920 by former members of the KPD who had been expelled at the 1919 party convention. Strongly leaning toward council communism, the KAPD existed throughout the 1920s. Max Hoelz (see “Max Hoelz” in this book) was one of its most prominent members.

8. Referring to the social democrats’ actions during the German Revolution of 1918–1919, and to the centralization of the KPD after a failed independent rebellion by KPD members in Hamburg in October 1923.
